Here I am again bringing another activity using songs. This time I've chosen 'Rude' performed by Magic!.

You can watch the videoclip above, but the fun starts now. As always, let's starting checking your listening skills. Play here. Just a reminder: if you feel like a challenge, go for the 'write mode', where you can practive spelling as well.

But, what's this song about? Ideas?

Basically, this guy is in love, he wants to marry this special girl, but this parent is not willing to bless their union and is being, well, rude. Take a good look at the lyrics now. Download the pdf.

I consider this song a quite simple one. Right in the beggining, there is one idiom. "Knocked on your door with heart in my hand". To help you out, I indicated this phrase as a synonym to 'truly'. But check this explanation from this forum (The Phrase Finder), by TheFallen.

"I have heard this expression, and it does differ in meaning in my opinion from "heart on one's sleeve". As stated above, to "wear one's heart on one's sleeve" means to show one's true feelings involuntarily. To go to someone "heart in hand" means that you declare your emotions voluntarily, with the image being that of an offering to whomever you're meeting. The downside is of course that, if you go "heart in hand", you're putting yourself in a very vulnerable position, if your declaration of love is subsequently spurned - your heart would then be trampled in the dust."

Please check the discussion in the forum. There are lots of contributtions about this idiom, even citing Shakespeare.

Grammar - verb tenses

If you pay attention, this song is divided into two moments. One talking about the past and one in the present, making questions about the future.

If you want to review past tense verbs, complete de following and then check them by listening to the song again.

Saturday morning __________ (jump) out of bed And ______________ (put) on my best suit I _________ (get) in my car and __________ (race) like a jet All the way to you I ________________ (knock) on your door with heart in my hand To ask you a question 'Cause I know that you're an old-fashioned man, yeah
